Introducing Congo

Walking back home from a swim several weeks ago, we heard a whining noise coming from some bushes alongside a chain-link fence by the road. The boys ran down the ditch to investigate. "A puppy!" The poor little nugget's head was stuck in one of the holes in the fence. The boys gently pulled her free and the grateful and exhausted pup cuddled right into Jude's arms. We stopped at several homes along the road back to our house, asking if anyone knew where she belonged. No one knew so we took her home. We weren't intending to keep her as we already have a dog, but our kids quickly grew attached to her so we decided she could stay, fleas and all. The kids debated for a few days about what to name her... they just about settled on "Susan", but then "Congo" won out. She's been a great addition to our growing animal farm!

Father Heart seminar

I recently took in a 3-day seminar at a nearby retreat center which is run by 2 Dutch women. I was thankful for the chance to get away and have some intentional time of learning and praying. I came away challenged and refreshed.

Jeremiah was a big hit amongst the attendees. One woman, who is from the North, exclaimed excitedly the first day, "This is the first muzungu (white) baby I've ever seen!"

Visiting friends

A few weeks ago we spent an evening with our friends, Julius and Irene, their daughter, Precious, and Irene's sister, Ruth. Julius teaches Elijah piano. We enjoyed hearing their story about how God brought them together.

An evening walk

In the cool evenings we sometimes will take a family walk about 1/2 mile from our home on a golf course bordering the Nile River. On this evening we were thrilled to see monkeys. We don't often see them. You can see the one on the ground, and you'll have to look closely to see the one in the center of the tree. There were several more higher up. They seemed slightly perturbed at the noisy children disturbing their peace. They soon swung down from the tree and scampered off into the bush.
